About Ashirwad (Shagun) Scheme Punjab
The **Ashirwad Scheme** (previously known as the Shagun Scheme) is implemented by the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, Government of Punjab. The scheme's objective is to provide financial relief to underprivileged families when marrying off their daughters, preventing them from falling into high-interest debt traps.
Statutory Grant Amount
Eligible brides receive a one-time grant of ₹51,000 directly deposited into their bank accounts. The scheme covers daughters of Scheduled Castes (SC), Backward Classes (BC), Christian community, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) families.
Key Rules & Constraints
- Punjab Domicile: The applicant's family must be permanent residents of Punjab.
- Legal Age: The bride must have completed 18 years of age at the time of marriage.
- Strict Income Cap: The combined annual income of the family from all sources must not exceed ₹32,790. This income limit is statutory and strictly checked against official income certificates.
- Two-Daughter Cap: The grant is limited to the marriage of a maximum of two daughters per family.
- Widows and Remarriage: Daughters of widows of any caste are eligible. Additionally, SC widows or divorcees are eligible to claim the benefit for their own remarriage.
- Application Window: The application must be filed before the marriage or within 30 days after the solemnization of the marriage.
