Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) 1995 Overview
The EPS 95 is a social security scheme offered by the EPFO for organized sector employees. 8.33% of the employer's share of the EPF contribution is directed into this pension fund. Upon completion of 10 years of service, members qualify for a lifetime monthly pension.
Statutory Rules & Calculations
- Service Weightage: If you have completed 20 years of service or more, you receive a weightage of +2 years added to your pensionable service calculations.
- Wage Cap History: The pensionable wage cap was historically ₹5,000/month, raised to ₹6,500/month, and is currently set at ₹15,000/month since September 2014.
- Higher Pension: In accordance with the Supreme Court judgment of November 2022, eligible members who were in service as of September 1, 2014, were allowed to opt for a pension based on their actual monthly wages rather than the capped ₹15,000, subject to an extra 1.16% contribution adjustment.
