The ESIC scheme is a self-financing social security and health insurance plan for Indian workers. Governed by the ESI Act, 1948, it is funded by contributions from employees and employers, calculated as a percentage of wages.
Statutory Contribution Rates
The contribution rates are set at 0.75% of wages for the employee and 3.25% of wages for the employer. Insured workers earning a daily average wage of up to ₹176 are exempt from making contributions, but employers must still pay their share.
