Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the NSP One-Time Registration (OTR)?

Starting from academic cycles 2024-25 onwards, all students must register for a unique OTR (One-Time Registration) number on the National Scholarship Portal before applying for any scholarship scheme. It is linked to your Aadhaar and remains valid throughout your student life.

Can I apply for multiple scholarships on the NSP?

No. Under the guidelines of scholarships.gov.in, a student is eligible to receive only ONE scholarship in an academic year. Even if you match eligibility criteria for multiple schemes, you must choose and apply for only one. Applying for multiple may result in your applications being flagged or rejected.

Is Aadhaar mandatory for NSP scholarships?

Yes. Aadhaar is mandatory for identity verification and registration. Additionally, your scholarship funds are sent directly to your bank account via Aadhaar-enabled Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT/NPCI mapping). Your bank account must be seeded with Aadhaar. This ensures full compliance with the latest regulations, allowing you to estimate values correctly and avoid common filing errors.

What is the Central Sector Scheme (CSSS) on NSP?

The Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS) is a merit-cum-means scholarship funded by the Ministry of Education for college and university students. To qualify, you must score above the 80th percentile in Class 12 (Board exam) and have a family income below ₹4.5 Lakh per annum.

Where can I verify the source data for this calculator?

About This Calculator

Target Audience: Salaried taxpayers, investors & retirees planning Indian tax & wealth growth

What Does This Calculator Do?

This NSP Scholarship Finder matches your academic and family profile against major scholarship schemes available on the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in). It evaluates your category, course level, family income, and academic marks to find all matching Central and State schemes. It lists the estimated annual stipend and specific documents needed for each scheme.

How to Use It

  1. Academic Profile: Input your current course level (Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, UG, PG, PhD) and your marks percentage in the previous qualifying exam.
  2. Personal Details: Select your social category (SC, ST, OBC, General, EWS, Minority), disability status, and gender.
  3. Income Details: Input your family's annual gross income (from all sources).

The Logic Explained Simply

  • The Concept: The Indian Government offers various post-matric and pre-matric scholarships to support students from economically weaker and marginalized communities. Each scholarship has strict income caps (ranging from ₹1 Lakh to ₹2.5 Lakh per year) and minimum mark cut-offs (usually 50% or 80% for top-tier schemes).
  • The Formula:

For each scholarship scheme:

Qualifies = (Category Matches) AND (Course Level Matches) AND (Family Income <= Income Cap) AND (Marks >= Min Marks)

Real-World Calculation Breakdown

For example, an OBC girl student in a degree college has a family income of ₹1,80,000/year and scored 75% in her board exams.

  • OBC Post-Matric Scholarship: Eligible (Income cap ₹2.5L, marks >= 50%). Amount: ~₹5,300/year maintenance allowance plus fee reimbursement.
  • Central Sector Scheme: Ineligible because marks are below the 80th percentile (usually >= 80%).
  • Net Verdict: Eligible for 1 scholarship with an estimated annual value of ₹8,000 (stipend + basic tuition fees).
