Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who is eligible to apply for the PM-KISAN scheme?

All landholding farmer families in India who have cultivable land registered in their names are eligible. A family is defined as a husband, wife, and minor children. The land must be cultivable agricultural land, and the applicant must not fall under any of the exclusion criteria (such as paying income tax or being a government employee).

Are tenants or sharecroppers eligible for PM-KISAN benefits?

No. Under the official guidelines, landless agricultural laborers, tenant farmers, and sharecroppers are not eligible for PM-KISAN. The landholding must be owned by the farming family, with land records (RoR/Khatauni) registered in their name. This ensures full compliance with the latest regulations, allowing you to estimate values correctly and avoid common filing errors.

What are the key exclusions under the PM-KISAN scheme?

Individuals and families are excluded from PM-KISAN if they: 1. Hold or have held constitutional posts. 2. Are former or present Ministers, MPs, MLAs, or Mayors. 3. Are serving or retired government employees (excluding Class IV/MTS/Group D). 4. Are retired pensioners with a monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more. 5. Paid income tax in the last assessment year. 6. Are registered professionals (Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, CAs).

Is e-KYC mandatory to receive the PM-KISAN installments?

Yes, e-KYC is mandatory for all registered PM-KISAN beneficiaries. The bank account must also be linked to Aadhaar and enabled for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT/NPCI mapping) to receive installments successfully. This ensures full compliance with the latest regulations, allowing you to estimate values correctly and avoid common filing errors.

About This Calculator

Target Audience: Salaried taxpayers, investors & retirees planning Indian tax & wealth growth

What Does This Calculator Do?

This calculator checks if your household is eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, which provides direct income support to landholding farmers. It calculates your annual benefits and checks for statutory exclusions such as institutional land ownership, government service, or income tax payments. It ensures you know exactly how to qualify under the latest guidelines.

How to Use It

  1. Are you a farmer?: Select Yes if you are actively engaged in farming.
  2. Land Ownership & Size: Select your ownership type and input the total size of your cultivable landholding.
  3. Exclusion Fields: Answer questions about government employment, income tax payer status, and annual family income.
  4. Mandatory Details: State whether your bank account is Aadhaar-linked and seeded for DBT.

The Logic Explained Simply

  • The Concept: The PM-KISAN scheme is designed to help small and marginal landowners meet agricultural and household expenses. Only resident farming families who own cultivable land, are not government employees, do not pay income tax, and have linked Aadhaar are eligible.
  • The Formula:

Eligibility = (Is Farmer) AND (Land Ownership = Own Land) AND (NOT Govt Employee) AND (NOT Tax Payer) AND (Aadhaar Linked) AND (Pension < ₹10,000/month)

Real-World Calculation Breakdown

For example, a farmer family in Uttar Pradesh owns 3 acres of cultivable land. The applicant does not pay income tax, is not a government employee, and has linked their Aadhaar to their bank account.

  • Since they satisfy all the primary conditions and do not fall under any exclusions, they are ELIGIBLE.
  • Total Annual Benefit = 3 installments × ₹2,000 = ₹6,000 per year paid directly to their bank account.
