About Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS)

The PM Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) was introduced to encourage higher technical and professional education for the dependent wards and widows of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and former Coast Guard personnel. It is also extended to the wards of RPF/RPSF and State Police personnel disabled or killed in action.

Priorities and Categories

Scholarship seats are limited and allocated based on a strict priority ladder:

  1. Priority 1: Wards & Widows of ESM killed in action.
  2. Priority 2: Wards of ESM disabled in action and boarded out of service.
  3. Priority 3: Wards & Widows of ESM who died in service with death attributable to military service.
  4. Priority 4: Wards of ESM disabled in service with disability attributable to military service.
  5. Priority 5: Wards & Widows of ESM in receipt of gallantry awards.
  6. Priority 6: Wards of Ex-Servicemen retired below officer rank.

Renewal Conditions

For subsequent years of study, scholarship renewals are granted automatically provided the student passes all semesters/years in the first attempt with at least 50% marks. Any year backlog or failure disqualifies the student from receiving future benefits under PMSS.
