Electric utility companies bill your household based on the cumulative energy consumed, rather than the power rating of your devices. The power rating (in Watts) describes the rate at which power is drawn, while energy describes the volume over time.

The Standard Energy Formulas

To determine an appliance's cost, follow a simple three-step method:

Step 1: Get kW Divide device Watts by 1,000 to convert to kilowatts (kW):
kW = Watts ÷ 1,000
Step 2: Get kWh Multiply kW by the daily run duration in hours:
Daily kWh = kW × Hours
