How Rounding Modes Behave
Rounding represents the process of replacing a number with a simpler, shorter value that is approximately equal. It is commonly used to make long decimal sequences easier to read.
Comparing Rounding Techniques
Round Half Up
If the fractional remainder is exactly half (0.5), it rounds away from zero. 1.5 becomes 2; -1.5 becomes -2.
Banker's Rounding
Rounds exactly 0.5 to the nearest even integer. 2.5 rounds to 2; 3.5 rounds to 4. Prevents systematic drift in large dataset tallies.
Ceiling & Floor
Ceiling rounds up towards positive infinity. Floor rounds down towards negative infinity.
