Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does partial marking work in JEE Advanced multi-correct questions?

In multi-correct MCQs, if you mark all correct options, you get +4 marks. If you mark only a subset of correct options and no incorrect options, you get partial marks: +3 if there are 4 correct options and you mark 3; +2 if there are 3 or more correct options and you mark 2; +1 if there are 2 or more correct options and you mark 1. If you mark any incorrect option, you receive -2 marks.

What is the total marks for the JEE Advanced exam?

The total marks for JEE Advanced varies slightly each year as decided by the organizing IIT. Typically, the exam consists of two papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2) of 180 marks each, making the grand total 360 marks. Each paper contains Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics sections of 60 marks each.

What are the minimum qualifying marks to be included in the JEE Advanced rank list?

To be included in the rank list, candidates must meet both subject-wise and aggregate percentage cutoffs. For General category: 7.30% per subject (~9 marks) and 25.56% aggregate (~92 marks). For OBC/EWS: 6.51% per subject (~8 marks) and 22.78% aggregate (~82 marks). For SC/ST/PwD: 3.65% per subject (~4 marks) and 12.78% aggregate (~46 marks).

Do Paper 1 and Paper 2 carry equal weightage in ranking?

Yes, both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are compulsory and carry equal weightage. Your final JEE Advanced rank is calculated based on the sum of marks obtained in both papers across all three subjects. This ensures full compliance with the latest regulations, allowing you to estimate values correctly and avoid common filing errors.

What Does This Calculator Do?

This JEE Advanced Score Calculator 2026 handles the complex multi-pattern marking scheme of IIT JEE Advanced. It separates inputs for Paper 1 and Paper 2 by subject and question type to calculate your subject-wise and grand total marks.

How to Use It

  1. Select Paper & Subject: Toggle between Paper 1/Paper 2 and Physics, Chemistry, or Maths.
  2. Single-Correct MCQs: Enter your count of correct (+3), incorrect (-1), and skipped responses.
  3. Multi-Correct MCQs: Enter fully correct (+4), partially correct (+1/+2/+3), incorrect (-2), and skipped.
  4. Numerical/Decimal Types: Enter correct (+4) and incorrect (0) counts.

The Logic Explained Simply

  • The Concept: Different question types have distinct positive and negative weights. The calculator aggregates raw marks subject-by-subject across both papers.
  • The Formula:

Subject Total = Sum(P1_Type_Marks) + Sum(P2_Type_Marks)

Grand Total = Physics + Chemistry + Maths

Real-World Calculation Breakdown

If you scored:

  1. Single Correct: 10 right (+30), 4 wrong (-4) = 26 marks.
  2. Multi-Correct: 5 fully right (+20), 2 partially right (+2), 1 wrong (-2) = 20 marks.
  3. Numerical: 8 right (+32), 2 wrong (0) = 32 marks.

Your subject total across both papers is 26 + 20 + 32 = 78 marks.
